James Horner, le compositeur de Titanic et de Braveheart, est mort

C'est avec une immense tristesse que nous avons appris ce matin la mort du célèbre compositeur de musiques de film James Horner, âgé de 61 ans. Selon plusieurs médias américains, Horner serait décédé dans le crash de son avion privé, qui s'est écrasé près de Santa Barbara en Californie. Récompensé par deux Oscars (celui de la meilleure bande originale et celui de la meilleure chanson, tous deux pour Titanic), Horner laissera derrière lui des dizaines de compositions plus mémorables les unes que les autres, parmi lesquelles celles de Braveheart, Aliens, Apollo 13, Field of Dreams, Apocalypto, Fievel et le nouveau monde, Le Petit Dinosaure et la vallée des merveilles, Rocketeer, Willow, Star Trek II ou encore Krull. Ses dernières partitions auront été pour Le Dernier Loup de Jean-Jeacques Annaud, La Rage au ventre d'Antoine Fuqua (bientôt en salles) et The 33 de Patricia Riggen (qui sortira d'ici la fin de l'année). Par ailleurs, il travaillait déjà aux BO d'Avatar 2 et 3, qui devaient sortir en 2017 et 2018.

Sur le net, les hommages n'ont pas tardé à fleurir. Céline Dion a ainsi déclaré : "James Horner a joué un rôle très important dans ma carrière. Il va nous manquer à René et moi". De son côté, le compositeur français Alexandre Desplat (The Grand Budapest Hotel) s'est montré très attristé par la nouvelle : "C'est une tragédie pour tous les compositeurs. Nous venons de perdre l'un de nos collègues les plus talentueux et respectés. Ses musiques resteront à jamais". Même son de cloche du côté Marco Beltrami (World War Z) : "James Horner était une des légendes de la musique de film. Je ne peux m'empêcher de penser que sa mort marque la fin d'une ère".
